When the first-graders in Katie Stefanic’s class at Hansom Elementary School learned they were going to have a surprise visitor, they were curious about who would be stopping by. Their smiles and spontaneous “ahhhs” and “ohhs” made their excitement clear when they learned it was Peighton — one of their favorite guests. The 3-year-old golden retriever wanted nothing more from the youngsters than hugs and petting, which they were more than willing to share.

The 2025 Adaptive Bike Giveaway program, held by Sam’s Posse, is accepting applications until May 10. The bike program opened last month, with the goal of helping individuals with disabilities receive a rideable bike.

The concert is part of the Ramona Concert Association series. The l Gladkovsky Thefamily is known for playing four or six hands on one piano. Kiriill and Anna, piano solo and duo pianists as well as husband and wife, have performed in major concert halls worldwide. Anna, a published composer, holds the highest degree in piano performance in Russia.

For the past 25 years, the San Diego Habitat Conservancy has worked to preserve natural habitats in the area. To celebrate, the group will throw an anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Three Hills Winery in Ramona. The event will feature music by Ramona singer/songwriter Danielle Hughes, food, a special burrowing owl viewing and a chance for conservation-minded community members to connect, organizers said.
San Diego County’s ‘very high’ fire hazard decreases compared to 2011

San Diego County saw a nearly 9% decrease in acreage with “very high” fire hazard compared to 2011, Cal Fire has reported in a release of new maps for areas under local and county fire agency jurisdiction. According to Cal Fire data, San Diego County has 157,338 acres with “very high” fire hazard, the highest level of hazard. In 2011, that figure was more than 180,700 acres. The new maps released March 24 also included two lower hazard designations — “high” and “moderate” — for the first time.
New Ramona Rodeo royalty court crowned for 2025

The Ramona Rodeo officially has a new royal court, with the 2025 Queen, Junior Queen and Young Miss crowned in front of a packed house on April 5 at Olive Peirce Middle School. Sujhey Rosas was chosen as the new Senior Queen, while Emilee Hudson was named Junior Queen and Macy Mault Young Miss. Rosas said she plans to use her new platform to spread the word about rodeo. “I want to use social media to our advantage, and showcase rodeo as an event and how much of a family it is,” she said.
Pacific Beach Woman’s Club High Tea to raise scholarship money

There will be plenty of tea and treats on hand for the 2-4:30 p.m. event held at the Soledad Club, 5050 Soledad Road in Pacific Beach. Tickets are $60 per person. Buy at pbwomansclub.org/tea. Dressing up in costume is encouraged but not required, although organizers say the fancy hat contest is not to be missed.
