NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — On the morning of Feb. 6, bystanders on Welcome Road sensed something was horribly wrong as police surrounded a young mother’s home on reports of shots fired. Shana Hicks, the founder of Breaking Darkness 757 was among the bystanders who stood in the rain as police combed the scene. We were at a standstill because no one knew the outcome. No one knew what was going on, who all was involved and who was going to make it out.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Final exams, the prom and regional sports finals are all part of the end-of-school season, but this year, like in many years in the past, social media has fueled a dangerous trend, with the latest episode involving laptops and easily influenced children. 10 On Your Side obtained a copy of an advisory that was sent to Norfolk parents over the weekend. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The chains were invisible, but they effectively disenfranchised the descendants of enslaved African Americans or Negros — in the best of times — as they were called during the Jim Crow era. Attorney Thurgood Marshall and other Black lawyers challenged local school boards that enforced segregation in public schools. The case, known as Brown v. Board of Education, would change the course of history for a country that was built on the backs of slaves.
