VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman charged with first-degree murder in connection to a homicide in Virginia Beach spoke to 10 On Your Side from jail Thursday. According to police, officers were called to the 500 block of Rodney Lane just after 11 a.m. Wednesday for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a man who had been shot. The victim, identified as 90-year-old Woodard McClure, was pronounced dead on the scene.

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — With excited passengers on hand, Norfolk city officials and others christened the 2025 version of the Spirit of Norfolk Wednesday. Beginning in 1978, the Spirit of Norfolk was the birthplace of so many fond memories of celebrations in Hampton Roads. Back in the 1970s Kenneth Cooper Alexander was a boy from Berkley. Today, he is the mayor of Norfolk. “A lot of memories are made at the Spirit reunions, birthdays, and celebrations,” Alexander said.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — Campus officials with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) said the campus was on lockdown Sunday morning following a shooting on the campus quad. In a Facebook post, the officials said the incident happened on-campus at 12:30 a.m. Officials sent an email out to students and faculty alerting them of the shooting 15 minutes after the incident. The campus then went on lockdown two hours after the email was sent.

Latest from Elizabeth City State UniversityIn a statement, ECSU administration told 10 On Your Side the shooting happened during their 'Viking Fest' event in the quad near dorm rooms at 12:30 a.m. School administration said four people were shot and two others were hurt during the commotion.
