ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. — Brad Spafford, an Isle of Wight man arrested on Dec. 17 after being found an unregistered rifle and destructive devices in his home, pleaded not guilty Wednesday. According to the FBI, Spafford contained over 150 devices in his home, the largest in their history. The FBI had been investigating Spafford since 2023 after a source reported that Spafford had lost some of his fingers in 2021 while working on explosive devices.

NORFOLK, Va. — Current Norfolk State football coach and former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick was announced as one of 22 inductees in the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class, according to the National Football Foundation. In his two years as a Hokie, Vick only lost one regular season game finishing 22-1.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Three people, including a former corrections officer, were arrested Tuesday in connection to a large-scale drug operation worth more than $200,000 at Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake, says the Virginia Department of Corrections. On Sept. 8, 2024, Betty Jo Hoyer and Michael Norman Hoyer visited the facility to see their son, who is an inmate there.

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. — According to new court documents, a grand jury in Norfolk has indicted Brad Spafford on a felony charge for possession of an unregistered rifle and destructive devices Thursday. Spafford was first arrested in December after he was found with more than 150 "finished explosive devices" in his home, the most seized in FBI history, officials say.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk police arrested a man in connection to the robbery on the Tide Light Rail in Norfolk on Dec. 27. Detectives charged Silvero Brown Jr., 32, with robbery and assault and took him in to police custody around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A federal grand jury indicted Chesapeake Regional Medical Center with healthcare fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States and interference with government functions Wednesday. The charges are in connection to the Medical Center's employment of Javaid Perwaiz, who was arrested in 2019 for doing unnecessary gynecological surgeries on women in addition to submitting fictitious claims to health care benefit programs for reimbursement.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk has a new face leading its economic growth—one that residents may find familiar from a previous role. The city has appointed Captain Janet Days as its new director of economic development. Days was the first African American to lead Naval Station Norfolk, completing her tenure as commanding officer of the world’s largest navy base in August. Prior to that, she was among the few Black women to command a guided missile destroyer.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — After Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer proposed an ultimatum to organizers of Something in the Water — release ticket sales and a lineup within five days, or else — the city council opted to give Pharrell's Oceanfront music festival more time. In a 8-2 vote Tuesday, the council decided to defer Dyer's resolution, which was drafted after SITW leaders missed a Dec. 31 deadline to announce the lineup and commence ticket sales.
