ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Local law enforcement came together with New York state's Criminal Justice agency to talk about investments in policing technology on Tuesday. Officials with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) visited Elmira to hear about how the District Attorney's office and Elmira Police Department use new technologies to help investigate and solve crimes.

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira is the resting place of more than 11,000 men and women who served in the Armed Forces. Each of them, a life remembered beyond Memorial Day. Among the thousands of gravestones is a Navy sailor from Elmira, whose surviving shipmate is making sure his friend is not forgotten. On Sunday, people gathered around a dining room table at a home in Horseheads, meeting for the very first time.

(WENY) -- Monday, May 26th marks Memorial Day, a federal holiday in which the nation honors the memory and mourns the loss of United States military members who died while serving in the Armed Forces. TOWANDA, PA (WENY) -- A Bradford County man is headed to state prison, after being convicted of sexually abusing a young child. According to the Bradford County District Attorney, a jury convicted 38-year-old Dennis Vanderpool of Rome on May 21 after a trial. Authorities say Vanderpool was a friend of the family of the victim, and had been entrusted to babysit her while a parent cared for a sick family member. A jury found Vanderpool guilty of Corruption of Minors, and Indecent Assault.

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Monday, May 26 is Memorial Day; a day to remember the men and women who died while serving our country. A number of ceremonies and events will be taking place across the Twin Tiers, including at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira. Volunteers are need to help place American flags at the gravestones in the cemetery on Friday morning, beginning at 9 A.M. The placement will happen rain or shine.
