Norwalk Superintendent of Schools Alexandra Estrella earned $47,274 more last year than she did in 2022; her total $369,995 easily topped the list of City Hall paychecks for 2023. Norwalk Police Lt. Paul Resnick came in second with $290,804 by racking up overtime payments and extra duty assignments. One surprise: former high-level NPS administrator Frank Costanzo was paid $191,825 in 2023 although he stopped working for the school district in early 2022.

Yupp – it’s that time again. Members of the Norwalk Board of Estimate and Taxation said they needed more information before a proposal to create a recreation and park revenue fund could move forward. The proposal from the head of the department, Robert Stowers, would create a separate revenue fund—outside of the city’s general fund.

The Norwalk Board of Estimate and Taxation approved a request from the Health Department for funding to assist families affected by fires and other “unpredictable events.”While the Health Department initially requested $50,000 to cover existing costs and potential ones for the rest of the fiscal year, the Board approved $30,000, adding that the department could come back if it needed more.

Norwalk’s political Town Committees held caucus votes Wednesday to determine their memberships for the coming two-year terms. Town Committee members vote to endorse candidates for their parties. They are also eligible to be delegates to the nominating conventions for both state and national offices and meet monthly to discuss issues, perhaps influencing those in elected offices. Terms begin in March. Citizens could petition to force primaries if they don’t agree with the caucus votes.

If you’re a teenager or an adult who is battling stress, you’re far from alone. Come to a free presentation “10 Tips to Manage Stress for Teens and Adults” conducted by stress management expert Wendy Hurwitz, M.D., from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday Jan. 21 at Norwalk Public Library Main Branch, 1 Belden Ave. Residents from every town are welcome. According to a news release, snacks will be served courtesy of outpatient mental health provider High Focus Treatment Center.

The legislature’s arcane Regulation Review Committee isn’t used to the spotlight. It normally works behind the scenes, making sure state regulations are consistent with the legislation that authorized them.
