Norwalk residents can dispose of unwanted mattresses and box springs that are dry and intact this Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Norwalk Public Works Center, according to a press release. Residents may bring mattresses to the Center at 15 South Smith Street, and park in the gas pumps area to dispose of them. The program is open to Norwalk residents only.

Two smokehouse workers were arrested Thursday when the Norwalk Police Special Services Division and the State of CT Department of Consumer Protection (Drug Control Division) executed a search warrant at the store they work in, in accordance with an ongoing investigation into Norwalk smokehouses. Smoke House 1, located at 108 Connecticut Ave., is not licensed to sell cannabis above the legal limit, a news release said.

The South Norwalk Train Station is one of the busiest in the Metro-North Railroad system. It serves as a hub and connection point both for trains on the New Haven main line (running between New Haven and New York City) and trains on the Danbury branch (between Danbury and South Norwalk).

Metro-North Railroad said Friday afternoon that New Haven Line riders could expect travel delays of up to 15 minutes “because of a speed restriction resulting from a bridge strike near South Norwalk.”The sevice alert posted on X, formerly Twitter, shortly after 4pm was followed by another alert at about 5:30 pm stating that New Haven Line service had returned to operating “on or close to schedule” after the incident.

Members of the Norwalk Board of Estimate and Taxation said they needed more information before a proposal to create a recreation and park revenue fund could move forward. The proposal from the head of the department, Robert Stowers, would create a separate revenue fund—outside of the city’s general fund.
