HARARE, Jan 30 (NewsDay Live) - GOVERNMENT has removed value-added tax (VAT) on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG gas) from the start of the year. Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion minister Mthuli Ncube made the announcement through Statutory Instrument 195 of 2024 saying in Thursday. “The removal of VAT is meant to give relief to citizens who are using LPG gas as a source of energy,” he said.

THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has approved an adjustment to Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) tariffs for local telecommunications companies. The new tariff adjustment, which took effect over the weekend, are seen as a response to last month’s devaluation of the ZiG, forcing operators to align pricing with current economic conditions. In a notice to customers, Econet and NetOne separately published the revised charges for voice, data and SMS services.

POLICE on Wednesday shot dead a man during a second-hand clothing bales anti-smuggling operation. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Admire Tawanda Sibanda (40).

MARIST Brothers Nyanga won this year’s Old Mutual National High School Quiz for the third time in a row at the finals held in Harare at the weekend. Harare’s Kuwadzana High 2, which was in its first finals since 2016, came secand and Kutama College came third. The Marist Brothers hattrick capped a marathon season which started on May 17, with 436 schools participating. Three schools from each province advanced to the finals.

GARIKAI Dzoma, the founder of Zimpricecheck, won the 2024 Value Creation Challenge (VCC), beating 11 other finalists in a competition for budding entrepreneurs at the finale last Friday, winning US$13 000 in seed funding. VCC, which empowers young entrepreneurs by providing skills needed to turn innovative ideas into successful ventures, is sponsored by Old Mutual in partnership with the British Council and British embassy.
