The Deployment of the Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU) on the Lake Victoria waters that crumbled Mr Daniel Kasules’ fish business could have been a blessing in disguise after finding solace in the coffee farming business. Mr Kasule, a resident of Kyango Village, Kalisizo Sub-county in Kyotera District, found himself employed at a construction site when he was 10 years old. He had earlier dropped out of school while in Primary Four after his father died.

The Agriculture ministry has asked the National Environmental Management Authority (Nema) to expedite the process of approving the oil palm project in Masaka District. The plan to roll out oil palm growing in the district was hatched three years ago, but challenges in land acquisition and securing Nema’s approval have both delayed the start of the project.

Patients who need X- ray services at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital are currently requested to go elsewhere following the breakdown of the newly acquired machine. The X- ray machine, which was acquired and installed in February last year, broke down two months ago and has never been repaired. Currently, patients and their caregivers have to seek for services from private facilities where they pay between Shs30,000 and Shs50,000.
