Viewing held for former Rep. Bill Pascrell in Paterson

A viewing for family and friends was held on Tuesday for the late Rep. Bill Pascrell who passed away last week. The viewing took place at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson. Gov. Phil Murphy directed all flags to be flown at half-staff today and tomorrow honoring Pascrell’s life and service. He served in Congress for nearly 30 years. A former Frito-Lay employee has filed a defamation lawsuit against PepsiCo claiming himself to be the inventor of “Flamin” Hot Cheetos. Richard Montanez claims he invented the spicy snack more than 30 years ago while he was a factory janitor at Frito-Lay. However, the company -- a subsidiary of PepsiCo -- denies that claim. Montanez suit accuses the company of lying.
NYC officials: Westchester caseworker’s death ruled a homicide

The New York City Medical Examiner's Office on Friday ruled the death of a Westchester caseworker as a homicide. Maria Coto, 56 was seriously beaten in May after she knocked on the wrong apartment during a home visit in Peekskill. Coto died about a month later. The examiner’s office says she died due to complications from injuries to her head. Hasseem Jenkins was originally charged with assault and is set to be arraigned on murder charges next Tuesday.

A strange cloud that appeared in Orange County has left residents wanting answers about its origins. The Orange County Office of Emergency Management traced the cloud to the skies above the Middletown-Minisink area. There weren't any fires or explosions, leaving officials to deem the cloud unusually low. Local activists say the plume was traced to the CPV Valley Energy Center in Wawayanda, but county officials say there's no evidence suggesting such a link.

The Town of Walkill announced it is proposing noise ordinances at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The new rules would impact future events at the fairgrounds and the speedway. "My residents enjoy the races,” said one business owner. “My residents enjoy the rodeos, the fireworks. What we don't enjoy, is being woken up at 7 a.m. with music that is deafening. We're not talking about music you can dance to, we're talking about music.
Executive orders still in place preventing Rockland County and Orange County hotels from converting into migrant shelters

Hotels in Rockland an Orange counties are still unable to convert into migrant shelters. A federal judge dismissed a challenge from the New York Civil Liberties Union. The suit was filed when migrants were being relocated from New York City to across the state. It alleged that some counties were unlawfully blocking the migrants. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says the county did not stop people from arriving. He added it stopped hotels from turning into shelters and disregarding local law.
