The tributes continue to pour in for Vicki Brick-Zupancic, the former McDonough School and University of Maryland basketball star who became CEO of the Brick Bodies Fitness chain. Brick died Tuesday of ovarian cancer. After playing professional basketball in Australia and the Philippines, Brick joined her family’s fitness chain Brick Bodies, managing the Reisterstown center. Brick later became CEO of the chain of fitness centers started by her parents Lynne and Victor Brick.

Baltimore police announced on Wednesday that two teenagers were charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last year. Noah Diggs, 18, and a 17-year-old girl were charged as adults with first-degree murder in the Feb. 3, 2024, fatal shooting of 55-year-old Melvin White in West Baltimore. Police said they responded to the 3000 block of Edmondson Avenue just before 10 a.m. to investigate a reported possible overdose. Upon arrival, officers located White unresponsive on a front porch.

Contrasting woods highlight the elegant lines of this Gustav Stickley-designed classic. In days gone by, a chest similar to this would contain a bride’s dowry. The form goes back to Gothic times, but this is an adaptation of a Gustav Stickley piece from 1901. Admiring the lines of this piece, I was curious to see how the design would look with contrasting materials, not the usual Craftsman dark oak.

Firefighters from around Maryland are gathering in Timonium Wednesday to bury one of their own. Baltimore County Fire Lt. Raymond Vargas was a nearly 12-year veteran of the fire department stationed in Perry Hall. He died Thursday after a battle with leukemia. Family, friends and colleagues will gather for a viewing at the Maryland State Fairgrounds at 1 p.m. He will be buried later in the day at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Cockeysville.
