WBAL (1090 kHz AM) is a radio station in Baltimore, Maryland, focusing on News, Talk, and Sports. It is owned by the Hearst Corporation and operates from a three-tower facility in Randallstown, Maryland. The station shares its workspace with WBAL-TV (channel 11) and WIYY (97.9 FM, which was previously known as WBAL-FM) at Television Hill in Baltimore's Woodberry area. As a Class A clear-channel station with a power of 50,000 watts, WBAL holds the title of the most powerful radio station in Maryland. Its directional signal at night can reach much of the eastern half of North America, extending as far as Nova Scotia and Bermuda. During the day, the signal effectively covers a large part of the Washington metropolitan area, as well as significant portions of the Eastern Shore, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. WBAL boasts the largest news team of any radio station in Maryland. Notably, WBAL and WIYY are the only two radio stations still owned by Hearst.

A firefighter remains in critical and guarded condition after battling a fire in Downtown Baltimore Monday afternoon. Lt. Mark Dranbauer, 44, suffered a medical emergency while he was on an aerial ladder while battling the fire in the 200 block of West Saratoga Street. Baltimore City Fire Department Chief James Wallace said Dranbauer fell down the ladder but remained attached to it. Other firefighters were able to get Dranbauer off the ladder and transported him to Shock Trauma.

The Baltimore Ravens signed undrafted rookie kicker John Hoyland, giving themselves another option for Justin Tucker’s replacement. The Ravens announced the move Monday. They also signed tackle Lucas Scott and defensive back Keyon Martin. Baltimore announced last week it was releasing Tucker, the five-time All-Pro whose future was in doubt ever since he’d been accused by massage therapists of inappropriate sexual behavior. The Ravens drafted kicker Tyler Loop of Arizona last month.
