WBAL (1090 kHz AM) is a radio station in Baltimore, Maryland, focusing on News, Talk, and Sports. It is owned by the Hearst Corporation and operates from a three-tower facility in Randallstown, Maryland. The station shares its workspace with WBAL-TV (channel 11) and WIYY (97.9 FM, which was previously known as WBAL-FM) at Television Hill in Baltimore's Woodberry area. As a Class A clear-channel station with a power of 50,000 watts, WBAL holds the title of the most powerful radio station in Maryland. Its directional signal at night can reach much of the eastern half of North America, extending as far as Nova Scotia and Bermuda. During the day, the signal effectively covers a large part of the Washington metropolitan area, as well as significant portions of the Eastern Shore, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. WBAL boasts the largest news team of any radio station in Maryland. Notably, WBAL and WIYY are the only two radio stations still owned by Hearst.
