A Port Moody resident is facing a significant fine for killing a grizzly bear in Squamish in 2021. The BC Conservation Officer Service (COS) says Carime Bruno was sentenced to pay $7,000 and do 100 days of community service for the crime. COS says Bruno tried and failed to claim the killing was done in self-defence. "The evidence found during the investigation determined that the killing was not justified, and contrary to the Wildlife Act," said the Service in a release Wednesday.

The Burnaby RCMP targeted shoplifters at Metrotown, as stores have been seeing a spike in incidents during closing time. Cpl. Mike Kalanj told CityNews that mounties spent two evenings at the mall earlier this month, and recovered nearly $7,500 worth of stolen merchandise. Kalanj said store employees are typically frightened or instructed not to intervene with shoplifters, but many had noted "chronic shoplifting" around closing time.

The province needs to be doing more to protect seniors against abuse, says B.C.'s official seniors advocate. Dan Levitt says one in every six seniors experience abuse or neglect, with most cases involving money. "The types we hear most often from seniors contacting our office at the seniors advocate is financial abuse," Levitt told CityNews. "However, we know most victims do not report being scammed.

Taylor Swift's Vancouver shows could be the biggest of the record-breaking Eras tour. Earlier this week, Swift announced the tour will be ending at the end of the year. "This is the very first time I've ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December," she told fans in Liverpool, England, during her 100th show of the tour. As of now, there are no shows scheduled after the Dec. 8 show at B.C Place.

With two years to go before Vancouver officially welcomes soccer fans from across the globe, the city is unveiling its plans for the FIFA Fan Festival. The city says Hastings Park at the PNE will be the site of the festival. There, people will be able to watch matches on the big screen of the new amphitheatre. The FIFA Fan Festival will start on June 11, 2026, and end on July 19, 2026. In addition to showing matches, the festival will feature live entertainment, food, and more.
