Sophomore journalism student Paulena Edelman’s commute to school this morning took double what it usually takes her. Paulena Edelman: It was terrible. It was like, I’m a fast walker, so usually it takes me 20 minutes and then took me 40 because I there was really deep puddles and I live near row and there was this one.

Planning on trick-or-treating this Halloween? Depending on how old you are, you may be breaking the law. According to city laws in towns across the U.S., some candy-grubbers might have to sit out on the festivities because of their age. Multiple cities have placed an age limit on trick-or-treating. According to Section 46-8 of the Chesapeake, Virginia municipal code, any person over the age of 14 is prohibited from the activity.

Regardless of any future cutbacks on carbon emissions, sea levels will rise about 6 feet over the next few centuries, according to a new study based on simulations calculating the future state of the West Antarctic Ice Shelf. Dr. Kaitlin Naughten, a British Antarctic survey oceanographer, led the study in which researchers used computer simulations to calculate the future melting projections of the Antarctic ice sheets.

This weekend, USC’s campus will be bustling with family members and friends for its annual Trojan Family Weekend. The weekend-long event will give families an opportunity to visit their children, join the festivities and attend the football game Saturday. “I think [my parents] are coming to Trojan Family Weekend because they want to come and see me thrive in college and see what I’m doing,” said freshman Olive Petty.

Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year on the Jewish calendar, concludes Monday night. USC organizations are offering multiple opportunities for observing students to celebrate. Jewish people spend Yom Kippur, which translates to “Day of Atonement,” “praying for forgiveness,” according to Chabad.org.
