As we close the final page on the final chapter of our 157-year story, I thought I’d pull back the curtain and provide you a little insight into what we covered and why we felt it mattered. Whether it was crime, laws being proposed or local arts and entertainment, we tried to tell as much of Hudson County’s story as possible. While a company closing was important in one town, a brief note about an upcoming town meeting on an important issue was a big deal for another community. Were we perfect?

A fund-raising campaign to pay for funeral expenses for the Jersey City woman and her two young children who were stabbed to death early Thursday morning has been established. The woman’s ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Napoleon Romero-Anduray, has been charged with three counts of murder and weapons offenses. He is currently being treated at a local hospital for injuries he suffered during attack at a Hutton Street apartment building.

A 26-year-old man who served prison time in connection with a 2017 murder was tracked down in Florida and charged with the murder of a 34-year-old in Jersey City late last year. Zafarri Francis, 26, of Jersey City, is also charged with charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and receiving stolen property in the Dec. 8 death of Dushawn Bell, of Elizabeth on Fairview Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced Friday.
