Fresh from their Very Division 1A League title win the Cork camogie senior side had to quickly turn their attentions to the Munster championship. They take on Clare on Sunday, throw-in at 11.45 at Ennis, as part of a double-header with the men’s game between the same two counties. On paper this is a game that Cork will be expected to win easily, but one factor that will concern manager Ger Manley is the quick turnaround from the league.

A number of years ago Mary White wrote a book about the Cork ladies football team who won 10 All-Ireland titles in 11 years. The book was Relentless and it told the story of their rise from nowhere to achieve a level of success that will be difficult to match again by any county. Though they haven’t risen from nowhere to the level they are at, as Cork camogie has always been in the hunt for titles, the title could easily be used in regard to the current squad.

Cork were crowned Very National Camogie League Division 1A champions at FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday. Cork’s last league win was in 2013 and this one was built on an impressive display. The work rate of all was key, with the forwards making it difficult for Galway to move the ball from defence. When they did the likes of Pamela Mackey, Libby Coppinger and Meabh Murphy, in defence, were in no mood to let them score.

It wasn’t to be for Cork as they lost the Lidl National Football League Division 2 final to Galway at Croke Park. It certainly wasn’t for lack of effort on Cork’s part, but they were beaten by a more experienced side overall. Before the game Cork manager Joe Carroll said that he wanted a good performance with the championship only two weeks away, as much as the win.

The men’s EYHL 1 title goes right down to the wire this Saturday with Lisnagarvey and Three Rock Rovers level on points. The sides met in a thrilling encounter last weekend that Three Rock won 3-2, bringing them level at the top. Garvey however have the superior goal difference, meaning a win will give them the title as they face Corinthians. Three Rock take on Annadale hoping for a favour from their local Dublin rivals. The men’s EYHL 2 playoff quarter finals feature the top three teams in Munster.
