    A boy who it was claimed suffered a face fracture after falling 18 feet to the ground through an alleged gap in a stair bannisters has settled a High Court action for €260,000. Kai Keane was just over two years of age when the accident happened as he walked upstairs to the family's second-floor apartment on returning from an outing with his father. His counsel, Dr John O’Mahony SC, told the High Court the boy, who is now nine years of age, fell two storeys to the ground level.

    Dublin City Council has won an appeal over the proposed Sandymount cycleway in Dublin. The Court of Appeal has found the High Court, in quashing the scheme, had erred in finding that it was to be introduced on a temporary basis and in finding that environmental impact assessment (EIA) or appropriate assessment (AA) should first have been carried out.

    A boy, who it was claimed was prescribed an anti-psychotic drug while under the care of Kerry Camhs, has settled a High Court action for €42,500. The boy who is now 17 years of age cannot be named by order of the court. His counsel, Robert Fitzpatrick SC, told the High Court the boy, when he was 10 years of age had been prescribed the anti-psychotic drug risperidone which, counsel said, was “utterly inappropriate”. The boy, he said, took the drug and it was noticed he was very sleepy.

    A 13-year-old boy who sued over the circumstances of his birth at South Tipperary General Hospital has settled his High Court action with a €1.8million interim payment. The boy who has autism cannot be named by order of the court. The settlement is based on a liability apportionment of just two thirds against the HSE. His counsel, Liam Reidy SC, told the court the case related to the care provided when the boy’s mother was in labour at the hospital in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

    A 13-year-old boy who sued over the care he received at Cork University Hospital, and an alleged delay in the diagnosis of his hip condition, has settled a High Court action for €450,000. Rian Foley, the court heard, will not be able to join the Gardaí or the Defence Forces and loss of opportunity has been built into the settlement. The settlement against the HSE is without an admission of liability.
