Children are now able to use the new play are after an opening event on May 9, which was attended by the Portswood Neighbourhood Policing Team. Residents celebrated the transformation of the park, which now features modern equipment after the previous structures were removed due to safety concerns. The "fresh and vibrant" space is now ready to be enjoyed.

    The event will mark the end of Councillor Dave Shields term as the third Lord Mayor and 802nd Mayor of the city. Taking place on the historic steamship Shieldhall on Sunday, May 18, the party will consist of a cruise of the port, a light buffet and a well known city DJ. Music will be provided by one of the Lord Mayor's chosen charities, the SoCo Music Project. The Lord Mayor has opted for a more 'quirky and inclusive' event as opposed to the traditional black-tie dinner or mayor's ball.

The rating gives Oceania Vista the accolade of being one of the top-rated cruise ships in the city with regards to hygiene and cleanliness. But the CDC did note a number of improvements that could still be made – despite awarding the ship a 100-hygiene score.

    The strange looking creature is a deep red with bright orange streaks down each of its sides. Cllr Harrison said: "I came across this caterpillar whilst walking along the Green Route in Totton today. It was a monster, about five inches long." It has been revealed that the creature that the councillor saw was one of UK's rarest caterpillars - the Goat Moth caterpillar.

    The group of seven caravans have pitched up at Test Park Playing Fields, near the sports ground in Redbridge. Southampton City Council said it was aware of the encampament and are working to complete welfare checks before making a decision on how to proceed. The group arrived at the ground on Sunday and as of Monday morning are sited near the rugby pitch. The sports ground, owned by Solent University, is also used by Millbrook FC and Southampton Rugby Football Club.
