On Saturday, April 26, Marine Cpl. John E. Edwinson Jr. comes home to Wilmington. Edwinson was sadly killed in action during World War II on Sept. 24, 1942 at Guadalcanal, an island in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, and buried, along with nine others, on the battlefield by his comrades. Back in August, the state legislature passed and the governor signed into law a bill dealing with Accessory Dwelling Units. An ADU is a secondary residential unit on a single-family lot, either attached or detached, with a separate entrance and cooking space. The bill, applicable to all communities, even those with an ADU bylaw already in place, makes ADUs allowable by right and open to all residents. However, ADUs can be no larger than 900 square feet and can be subject to site plan review.
