TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says a minor is in custody and charged with capital murder after a man who shot and killed in Cottondale early Friday morning. Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency unit, said deputies with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office responded at approximately 3 a.m. to a call of a shooting in the 5400 block of 19th Street East in Cottondale.

TUSCALOOSA, AL β The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit on Friday announced charges against a man accused of sexual offenses against children and adults going back to at least 2020. Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency unit, told local media that 22-year-old Kendarius Lewis has been charged with three counts of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy, and two counts of sexual abuse first-degree.

TUSCALOOSA, AL β Iconic rockers ZZ Top are set to perform in Tuscaloosa this September as part of the band's 2025 Elevation Tour. The Texas rock trio is known for their blues-infused sound β and beards β and will take the stage at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater on Sept. 7, according to the tour website. It will be the band's first show in Tuscaloosa since 2021, which came following the untimely death of founding ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Longtime Oakdale Elementary School Principal Lucille Prewitt has announced she will retire after four decades with Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS). The Tuscaloosa City Board of Education on Tuesday approved a list of personnel changes that included her retirement as the system's longest serving current principal. Prewitt was hired by TCS in 1983 and taught at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary for 16 years before becoming principal of Oakdale in 1999.
