    Edwards skier Joey Leonardo has qualified for the 2026 Freeride World Tour (FWT). The 22-year-old placed fourth at the final stop of FWT Challenger series at Arapahoe Basin on Wednesday to wind up second in the overall season rankings. He’ll join Glenwood Springs skier Kelly Hilleke — who won the second event at the two-day competition at A-Basin and was the overall season champion as well — and nine other athletes from Region 2 on next year’s FWT. “Boy am I excited about it,” Leonardo said.

    Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain split a pair of doubleheaders against league opponents on Wednesday. The Devils defeated Steamboat Springs 8-6 before falling 10-6 in Gypsum while the Huskies went 1-1 on the road against Summit. Eagle Valley junior Xander DeHerrera went 3-for-3 from the plate and drove home five runs in the first game victory. James Bivins, Ricardo Gutierrez and Hudson Rozga alll collected two hits for the Devils, who pulled away with a three-run third inning.

    A trio of Eagle County courses are offering $5 rounds for the next generation of golfers. Last week, Bank of America launched a new initiative, ‘Golf with Us,’ which offers 6-18-year-olds a free one-year membership to Youth on Course. Youth On Course is a nonprofit based out of Monterey, California that provides subsidized rounds of golf for $5 or less at select partner courses across the country. More than 2,000 courses are partnered with Youth On Course nationwide.

    The Vail Mountain School boys lacrosse team turned the tables on Battle Mountain in Tuesday’s rivalry rematch. After falling to the Huskies 7-4 at home last month, the Gore Rangers rallied for an 8-6 come-from-behind victory in Edwards. “I know we played the dogs, but we looked like the dogs,” said VMS senior Winston Pillsbury, who scored twice in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead goal with 7:21 left. “Honestly, it feels electric.     Four Eagle Valley track and field records fell over the weekend, including the oldest one on the books. Allie Braun soared 5 feet, 5 inches at the Demon Invitational in Glenwood Springs on Saturday, breaking Tia Ross 48-year-old record by an inch. “I kind of had it in the back of my mind since I started track,” Braun said of her mark, a 4-inch personal best. “After that season I realized that maybe I had a chance at it.
