When both private and public paid parking were introduced in Avon in late 2023, it prompted significant public outcry. A survey of Avon parkers conducted by the town this winter reveals that, over a year later, people are still displeased. Liz Wood, Avon’s communications and marketing manager, presented the results of the survey to the Town Council on Tuesday. Avon implemented its managed parking program in December 2023.

Vail Health on Thursday, April 3, hosted a panel of three health care experts who use their knowledge of nutrition to support the health of their patients. “I like to think of nutrition as a prescription,” said Dr. Susie Vickerman, a family medicine physician at Colorado Mountain Medical. While medication can treat diabetes, high blood pressure or heart conditions, for many patients, proper nutrition can prevent the conditions from ever developing.

Vail Valley Unbound, the nonprofit Eagle County school founded to allow students to direct their own learning, is expanding and moving to Eagle. Currently in its second year of operation, Vail Valley Unbound will open an Eagle space for 28 learners from kindergarten through third grade in the fall. Cassie Boca and her husband, Zach, started Vail Valley Unbound two years ago to allow their curious son, then 4, to explore his interests in a self-driven classroom setting.

The Eagle Valley High School gym erupted in cheers and applause as the 11-year-old Gypsum girl, her parents and younger sister walked in on Wednesday. This past week was Eagle Valley High School’s Wish Week. The 1,000-student high school organizes and participates in events to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Colorado. Each year, Make-A-Wish Colorado designates a “wish kid,” a local child with a critical illness whose wish will be granted through the funds the students raise.

Avon is now the first municipality in Colorado to offer Styrofoam recycling. All Eagle County residents can drop off clean, white, hard Styrofoam with no tape or casing attached in the large white bin for free at the Avon Recycling Center at 371 Yoder Avenue, past the Home Depot. The drop-off bin is open 24/7, 365 days per year. The town launched its new Styrofoam recycling program on March 14. The Avon Recycling Center reopened following renovations on the same day.
