While it showcased some incredible films, it left much to be desired in terms of representation and the treatment of female stars. The Cannes Film Festival has always been inspirational, with the greats of fashion and film collaborating to create a truly incredible experience.

0 A group of artist and advocates and artists that oppose the Israel- Hamas war, wore red pins to the Oscars last week. This was through the Artists4Ceasefire campaign. Supporters included Mark Ruffalo, Billie Eilish and Ramy Youssef. The pins were symbolic of a call for immediate and permanent ceasefire and to show support for those suffering in Palestine.

0 The 96th Academy Awards was incredibly interesting in its nominations as well as its wins. Oppenheimer swept the floor with a total of seven wins, including Best Director and Best Picture. Poor Things came in at a close second with four wins and The Zone of Interest was the only other film to score multiple Oscars. Despite being the highest grossing film of 2023, Barbie only won a single award, for best original song.

0 The Byronic Hero, sometimes referred to as the anti-hero, is perhaps one of the most influential, yet problematic character tropes for books, films and TV. The first thing which comes to mind is a brooding, dark-haired, charismatic male character, stood on a cliff, or riding alone on horseback. There’s a strange magnetism here – you know you shouldn’t like them, but you can’t help rooting for them.
