As wildfires continue to burn in various locations throughout Manitoba, some residents say they’ve had first-hand experience escaping the flames. Delaney McIntyre told 680 CJOB her family successfully made it out of the wildfire danger zone around Sunset Beach at Clearwater Lake. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time they’ve had to dodge a blaze in the province’s north. “Last year they had fires going on in the Flin Flon area, and we were actually caught in that as well,” McIntyre said.

Sea Bears to retire late Winnipeg basketball star’s jersey at home opener

The Winnipeg Sea Bears will be honouring late captain Chad Posthumus by officially retiring his jersey at next week’s 2025 home opener. Posthumus, 33, died last November due to a stroke as the result of surgical complications. The Winnipeg native, who was also the club’s first-ever draft pick, will also be recognized with a ’33 forever’ patch on the Sea Bears’ jerseys all season.
Winnipeg man, 43, charged in sexual assault of teen girl, police say

A 43-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl is in custody, Winnipeg police say. The man was arrested Tuesday by child abuse investigators. According to police, the suspect befriended the girl over the past year, culminating in the incident Sunday. Police said she was invited to a Cathedral Avenue home, where she was allegedly given drugs and sexually assaulted.
