CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A man admitted in court to being the one that pulled the trigger, ending the life of a Dillon County elementary school principal. Kyle Church pleaded guilty to murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime on Tuesday at the Chesterfield County Courthouse. The charges stemmed from the shooting and killing of Stewart Heights Elementary School principal Dr. Wendy Cook in August 2022.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - This weekend, a nonprofit supported caregivers of amputee veterans across the U.S. here in Myrtle Beach. WMBF News got an inside look at how the Sunday event was a much-needed outlet for those helping give back to the ones who fought for freedom. “I’ve been caregiving for my husband since he was injured in 2012,” said Stephanie Trost, a caregiver through the Semper Fi & America’s Fund. Trost said she’s filled the role of caregiver medically, emotionally, and spiritually.

FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) – The former Marlboro County sheriff accused of excessive force made an appearance in federal court on Tuesday. Charles Lemon pleaded not guilty at the McMillan Federal Building in Florence to one count of deprivation of civil rights. During the hearing, the federal judge determined that Lemon was not a flight risk so she issued him a personal recognizance bond which means he was released pending trial.
