Kassie Jefferson laughed in surprise as she looked at how much time she had spent on TikTok for the week. "13 hours and 15 minutes," she said. Jefferson, a senior at Tolton Catholic High School, is just one of the many teens who use social media as a lifeline. "I have to have TikTok," Jefferson said. "I can't control it."From using it as a search engine, to forming the foundation of her friendships, apps like TikTok have been deeply integrated into Jefferson's daily life.

Monday marks the start of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. It highlights the impact that eating disorders have on people across the country. "It's really important to have that awareness that there’s so many people out there with it," said Stephanie Shepard, a psychiatrist at Burrell Behavioral Health. Close to struggle with an eating disorder or have in their lifetime. "It’s a huge number of people that it affects," Shepard said.

COLUMBIA — Candace Hulsizer doesn't consider herself an entrepreneur. "Really, I'm an educator," she said. With a background in teaching, she's grown into her enterprising role through a small corner of bookshelves in Columbia's historic Sharp End. “I thought that having a bookstore, especially one that focuses on Black literature, would be a perfect fit," she said. Hulsizer is the owner of Black Tea Bookshop, one of the many small businesses that call the Shops at Sharp End home.
