Two more cases of chronic wasting disease have been detected in Jasper County's wild deer population, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation, bringing the total to three so far. The first case was detected from deer sampling during the 2023-24 hunting seasons, northwest of Joplin along Center Creek near the Kansas line.

Jan. 16—Work to connect two popular rail-to-trails in Jasper County could begin this spring. The Joplin Trails Coalition plans a meeting to update the community on the project from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the Joplin Public Library's west Community Room. "We're going to focus on plans to connect the Frisco and Ruby Jack through the Cardinal Valley Habitat," said Bob Herbst, project manager for the Joplin Trails Coalition.
