PSU Graphic Design Alumni ‘24 Brendan Hanna is an artist specializing in design and screenprinting. Hanna’s work takes on a fast-moving style, blending pop, music and skateboarding culture and spins it into a new form. Hanna grew up in Portland as an artistic child—eagerly engaging in creativity at a young age. Hanna proudly displays the art created over thirty years ago, ranging from elementary to teenage years, when he became involved in graffiti.

The Neuroscience Association connects students across the university and between research development. By studying the process of neuroscience, students gain an understanding of the brain’s chemical processes.

Through a message to fans written in an iPhone’s notes app on Aug. 23, Singer and Songwriter Chappell Roan sparked significant dialogue about the nature of celebrities and the dynamics of fan interactions—particularly concerning the boundaries of consent and emotional labor. This message instigated immediate backlash for Chappell Roan, with many fans taking the boundaries set in place and weaponizing them against Chappell Roan.
Portland Fashion in the Aughts

Performers push and serve rolling carts of drinks. Models appear walking down the runways with fake guns. One even has a Molotov cocktail that shoots flames. These scenes attracted the community, with local bands and live music playing during the runway shows. This is just one moment out of Portland’s fashion scene in the 2000s. Artists obtained warehouses for these hand-created fashion shows through barter or working overtime.

A bumpy and clear chalice sits on a table outside of Lincoln Hall through this past Labor Day weekend, collecting tips for the volunteer-based cast and crew while paying homage to the name of the new theater group that directs the show—Bumpy Chalice Productions. At its core, Bumpy Chalice Productions aims to represent theatrical absurdity, a “Strange thing that surpasses social norms,” stated co-creator and PSU Alumni Isaac Sten.
PSU artists changing the narrative about houselessness

Housing insecurity continues to be one of Portland’s most pressing issues. Not only does the structural change required to alleviate this crisis remain elusive, but those experiencing houselensess continue to face social stigma and a lack of compassion from broader society. Tucked away in the Lloyd Center, far past the endless walkways, is an art exhibition called Epilogue: Changing the Narrative aimed to illuminate these issues.

Growing up, my dad and I ate Fred Meyers’s $5 deli sushi for dinner every Thursday. It was the first sushi I ever had the opportunity to try due to its inexpensive nature of being from the supermarket. This launched my twelve-year-old self toward a whole new world. Sushi was now my favorite food and I couldn’t get enough of it. To this day, that is still true.

Taylor Swift has taken the world by storm, especially in the past two years. Since her surprise releases of sister albums Folklore and Evermore in 2020, Swift has been unstoppable on the charts, leading to her domination in many other ways of life.
