Milton VFD awarded grant from Pilot Club of Huntington

MILTON — A grant awarded to the Milton Volunteer Fire Department last month from the Pilot Club of Huntington was put toward new helmets and gear to improve patient and firefighter safety. The club awarded the $2,000 grant from its Project Fund to the fire department March 10 after learning the department could use more gear to keep patients’ necks and heads safe while responding to emergencies in rural areas. “We were looking for helmets.

While licenses and permits are free this weekend, fishers must follow the rules on the size and number of fish that you can keep, outlined on fw.ky.gov. Supreme Court to hear cases at WVU

The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia will hear arguments in four cases beginning at 10 a.m., April 17, at the West Virginia University College of Law’s Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom. Fire departments training this weekend

HUNTINGTON — Multiple fire departments will train this weekend at The Prichard building in downtown Huntington, City of Huntington Communications Director Bryan Chambers said in an email Friday. The training is conducted under the auspices of the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension and is part of the Cabell County Chief's Fire Academy, Chambers said. The exercise will include instances where theatrical smoke is used to simulate fire conditions.
Paws in the Park: GHPRD hosts annual dog-friendly Easter egg hunt

HUNTINGTON — Dogs took over Ritter Park Friday evening as they searched for treat-filled Easter eggs during the annual Paws in the Park Easter Egg Hunt. Hosted by the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District, canines could find more than 6,000 eggs throughout the park. Prizes were available and dog owners could dress up their four-legged friends to participate in a costume contest. The animals could also visit with the Easter Bunny.
Ashland traffic signal to be updated Thursday

ASHLAND — State highway crews will upgrade the traffic signal at 13th Street and Winchester Avenue Thursday in downtown Ashland. The work will be done after rush hour to minimize traffic disruption at the intersection leading to the Simeon Willis Bridge to Ohio, according to a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The traffic signal will be de-energized and all traffic will be flagged through the intersection beginning at 9 a.m. for several hours.
Two pedestrians hit by vehicle Tuesday, taken to hospital

HUNTINGTON — Two individuals were transported to a local hospital after being hit by a vehicle while crossing 20th Street near the Marshall University Recreation Center Tuesday afternoon. Cabell County 911 dispatchers said a call came in around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday stating two people crossing 20th Street in the crosswalk were hit by a vehicle. Dispatch said when EMS responded to the scene, both pedestrians were still conscious and breathing.
