CACHE VALLEY, Utah (ABC4) — Just over a week after 22-year-old Deserae Turner-Buck decided she would begin hospice care, her family announced she had passed away. Deserae was only 14 years old when she was shot in the head and left in a canal bed in Smithfield, Utah, by two of her classmates in 2017. She survived and went on to live another eight years, fulfilling many milestones such as earning the crown of homecoming queen, getting married, and serving a church mission.

Deserae was 14 years old when she was shot in the head and left in a canal bed in Smithfield, Utah, by two of her classmates in 2017. Deserae survived, and two teenagers were sentenced to at least 15 years in prison for the shooting. “I have been in so much agony, so much pain, for eight years… it is time for me to take the steps to be in less agony and less pain,” Deserae told ABC4.com.
