(WJMN/WBUP) — Lawyers for Enbridge and the Michigan Attorney General's Office argued in a state courtroom for the first time in years, both urging a judge to end the long-running dispute. In 2019, Attorney General Dana Nessel filed suit against Enbridge Energy over its Line 5 oil pipeline that runs from Canada, across Michigan's Upper Peninsula, along the bottom of the Straits of Mackinac, and down through the Lower Peninsula.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) — UPDATE (1/17/25): On Thursday, Stacey Kangas was sentenced for charges related to her embezzlement of thousands from Marquette Senior High School. When she was arrested last year, Kangas was charged with embezzling over $100,000 — a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Last November, Kangas agreed to plea no contest to a lesser charge of embezzling $20,000-$50,000. This week, Judge Andrew Griffin sentenced Kangas to 90 days in jail and three years of probation.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WJMN/WBUP) — A Michigan man was sentenced to prison for his participation in a drug-smuggling ring that ran from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula, according to federal prosecutors. On Wednesday, a spokesperson for U.S. District Attorney Mark Totten's office said Charles Lester Knuckles Jr. was sentenced to 11 years in prison for leading a drug trafficking operation that traversed the state for at least two months, ending in January of 2023.
