The Trump administration is proposing rule changes to the Affordable Care Act marketplace that, if approved, will impact how Marylanders will be able to buy health insurance through the state portal. The rule, proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, would limit the amount of time people have to enroll for health insurance on the marketplace. Republicans in federal office are eying cuts to Medicaid, a move that could have deep reverberations for the Maryland budget and for Marylanders themselves. Congress is considering a plan that would cut $880 billion in Medicaid; the details on what exactly would be cut are still in the air, but one option is to get rid of the Medicaid expansion, a key provision of the Affordable Care Act. That extension allows people who make up to 138% of the poverty level eligible for Medicaid.
