Cameras are expected to return to Broward County’s special-needs classrooms to help parents determine whether their child may have been abused or mistreated at school. The program, which was last used in Broward schools during the 2023-24 school year, allowed parents to request cameras be placed in their children’s Exceptional Student Education classrooms and allowed the parents to review the footage if they suspected there was an incident.

Three people were hospitalized Sunday following an early morning shooting inside a parking garage in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The shooting was reported about 1:30 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Las Olas Circle, according to Fort Lauderdale police. “Preliminary investigation reveals that a group of individuals were gathered on the top floor of a nearby parking garage when multiple suspects approached and started shooting,” Detective Ali Adamson told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

An effort to buy thousands of laptops for Broward students has been mired by two years of delays, allegations of wrongdoing and now an investigation from the county’s chief watchdog. The problems could delay a new initiative the district has to issue a take-home laptop to each student at the start of the school year, which is Aug. 11.
