The money is being held at the Greenville Police Department and Tamia Sims-Irby has filed a lawsuit to get it back. Back in 2022, the young woman graduated high school, moved to Atlanta and was making a life for herself. Laura Morris said she got a letter in October 2024 saying her homeowner’s insurance would be abruptly canceled within months. The letter came not long after Hurricane Helene tore through parts of Greenville. Morris considers herself one of the lucky ones following the aftermath of Helene.
