With the escalating Israel-Iran conflict leading to a spike in oil prices, G7 leaders - minus U.S. President Donald Trump, who left early - sat down in Alberta Tuesday to talk global energy security. Canada was hosting leaders from the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy and the European Union. Leaders from several non-member countries were also invited.

Edmonton will need $4.4 billion to renew and renovate roads, bridges and city buildings from 2027-30. The problem: city council is $1.8 billion short. Outgoing Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi blamed previous administrations for the renewal deficit. "You know, this is what happens when councils pass the buck to future councils instead of taking the responsibility seriously," Sohi said.

The Alberta NDP says a poster for a townhall happening later this month is "proof" the UCP is a separatist party. Energy Minister Brian Jean appeared on a poster for a June 25 event called "Courage to Listen." Hosted by five UCP riding associations, it's billed as a townhall to "construct the framework for a sovereign Alberta within a united Canada."The poster includes a separation referendum question, and speakers who support Alberta leaving Canada.

That's the message from the provincial government in a Wednesday news release that touts a 20 per cent increase in energy production since 2015, with a nine per cent drop in emissions.
