The former TUI store on Elgin’s High Street which has lain empty for five months could soon be brought back to life. In December, the shop at 107-109 High Street closed down suddenly. The prominent empty ground and first-floor retail unit has since been on the market to rent for offers over £28,500 per annum. The retail unit set within a B-listed building is currently laid out as an open plan sales area with an office, storage space and staircase.

Andrea Steel is living her dream by running The Galley fish and chip shop in Lossiemouth alongside husband Jamie. As a youngster, she worked in a chipper in her hometown Hopeman. Later in life, she worked for Elgin-based architectural practice CM Design for 15 years. Meanwhile, Jamie’s career path has seen he serve as an merchant navy engineer and then work as a heating engineer with Scottish Gas for 20 years.

A charming late Victorian Lossiemouth church which was closed as part of major Church of Scotland cuts has hit the market. St Gerardine’s Church was designed by the well-known Scottish architect Sir John James Burnet. The church was closed in December 2023 after holding it’s final service. The closure was part of a wider plan to unite St Gerardine’s and St James’ in the town into a single parish under the name Lossiemouth Church of Scotland.

An Elgin fitness centre is helping people manage complex conditions to reduce the burden on the NHS. Mollie Powney opened fitness centre Project Neuro on Pinefield Parade in Elgin in 2023 after working as a person trainer. She made the move after she spotted a gap in services available to people diagnosed with conditions such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, strokes, and dementia.
