Jack Posey waited 14 hours before his flight out of Charlotte was canceled. Not one to waste time, Posey, the 24-year-old Carolina Chaos defenseman from northern Virginia, reached out to someone he knew through his Penn State connections to kill some time. That person would be Beckett Vance, a senior at Charlotte Christian who had committed to play lacrosse at Penn State, Posey's alma mater. The two met up and ran through some reps at the Knights' facilities.

Pine Lake Prep is a girls’ soccer state champion. The Mooresville school stayed hot with a 2-1 victory over Franklin Academy to win the North Carolina 2A girls’ soccer title on Saturday at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex. Senior midfielder Avery Garrett, a Campbell Camels signee, blasted the go-ahead strike late in the game on a feed from Sadie Peterson, the Pride’s Clemson-bound junior and leading scorer. “Everyone had a good mindset going into this year,” Garrett said.

Ardrey Kell remains a nemesis in the girls’ soccer state championship. The Knights defeated Ashley 2-1 on Saturday evening, knocking off the Wilmington school in the N.C. 4A title game for the second time in three years. With a strong crowd of supporters at nearby Mecklenburg County SportsPlex, the south Charlotte high school seized an early advantage and held off a late push. “This season was even cooler than when we won states the first time,” senior midfielder Ellie Riechman said.
