AIKEN — At least one new Aiken City Council member will be elected this fall. Councilwoman Andrea Gregory said June 2 she will not seek a third term representing District 5. District 5 is on the city's Southside. It includes most of Woodside and parallels Whiskey Road toward downtown and New Ellenton. Gregory, a Republican, has represented the district since 2017.

"The accused is not in Monetta, nor will he be," S.C. Rep. Bill Taylor said on Facebook. Taylor is a Republican representing House District 86.

AIKEN — One of Aiken's most passionate advocates of historic preservation died May 27. William Madison "Bill" McGhee Jr., 88, died unexpectedly according to a death notice posted by Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. He was a great man, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and cousin, his son, David, said on Facebook May 28. "I love him for the person he was and all the things he taught me over the years," McGhee continued.
