Dozens of local veterans spent Tuesday in the nation's Capitol as part of Honor Flight Bluegrass. This free trip allows veterans to visit monuments dedicated to their service. There were 84 who made the trip on Tuesday. After serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, James Stikes says he feels blessed to have lived a long life. "Everybody here that's been in the war, they know what it feels like to be home," Stikes said.

A Louisville boy has become the first pediatric patient in the U.S. to receive a new, state-of-the-art cochlear implant. From birth, Letisha Broadus and her husband knew their son DuJuan was special. "He was the best baby ever. He was very happy, didn't cry much. It was just great, he loves people," Letisha Broadus said. "We would call him baby Obama because he would wave at everybody."Baby Obama, or DJ as mostly everyone calls him, is like many 11-year-old fifth graders.

Manual High School senior Ashley Billiter is one of only two students from Kentucky selected for the prestigious United States Senate Youth Program, an initiative designed to foster the next generation of American leaders. The program, founded in 1962 by William Randolph Hearst, the founder of WLKY's parent company, Hearst Television, chooses two students from each state for a $10,000 scholarship.

More affordable housing is coming to the Merriwether neighborhood, in the form of 80 apartment units. "Safe, quality, and affordable housing is the foundation for everything else in a family's life," said Mayor Craig Greenberg. This new investment is part of Volunteers of America's Mid-States affordable housing complex. The nonprofit's mission is to change lives through addiction recovery, and homelessness and housing services.

Residents in the Louisville Metro area woke up to several inches of fresh snow Saturday morning, marking the second round of winter weather in a week. Steven Wigley spent his Saturday morning shoveling sidewalks at South 15th and West Market, clearing the few inches that fell overnight. "It was difficult to get down here, that was number one," said Wigley.
