The countdown is on to this year’s Nottinghamshire County Show - a day of agricultural and countryside-themed entertainment and attractions. The show takes place at Newark Showground on Saturday, May 10, when thousands of people are likely to go along. We have teamed up with the organisers, Newark and Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society, to give away five pairs of free tickets to lucky readers. This year there will be a double celebration.

Dinosaurs are once again set to roar on to the stage at Newark’s Palace Theatre. In a Easter holiday treat for youngsters, Dinosaur Live is coming to town on Tuesday, April 15, with two shows at 12.30pm and 3.30pm. Ever since they were first identified in the 1800s, dinosaurs have sparked the imagination of children and adults alike.

The Advertiser has once again opened its archives to see what was making the news this week 25, 50 and 100 years ago. 25 years ago - March 24, 2000ABOVE: Pupils and their parents from Bowbridge Road Infants’ School, Newark, visited Newark Fire Station as part of a literacy project. The children read fire service literature and signs posted around the station and experienced how a working station operates. Work is set to start on a £3.5m facelift of Newark’s biggest shopping precinct.

Wonderful tribute to Warwick Lane at Newark and Sherwood Sports Award tonight. Young Sportsperson Award named after him and his name added to the roll of honour. Both so fitting given his passion for local sport.
