    Town’s vital role in making music must remainMany residents and people from as far away as Melboume in Australia have been in touch to register their concern about the current threat to the world renowned Musical Instrument Craft (MIC) courses including the Violin School at Newark College. King Charles visited the school as the Prince of Wales and was given a cello made by students. An online petition has reached nearly 6,000 signatures (and rising) in a few days.

Leo Collis, 10, of Newark, wanted to help the Mozambique flood relief effort after hearing about it during lessons at Coddington Primary School. He decided to organise a penalty shoot-out and wrote to Forest asking if a player could attend as a guest.

    The brutality facing women under the Taliban in Afghanistan is laid bare in a graphic, thought-provoking new production at Nottingham Playhouse. A Thousand Splendid Suns, which runs until May 24, makes for uncomfortable viewing as nothing is left to the imagination, from domestic abuse and miscarriage to suicide and executions. And yet this is production will probably be one of the best things you see on stage this year.

Wonderful tribute to Warwick Lane at Newark and Sherwood Sports Award tonight. Young Sportsperson Award named after him and his name added to the roll of honour. Both so fitting given his passion for local sport.
