Georgia Writers Museum is excited to bring an authority on the amazing life of this baseball Hall of Famer. On June 3rd at 7pm (doors open at 6:30 pm), author Jerry Grillo will present his book, Big Cat: The Life of Baseball Hall of Famer Johnny Mize. The event will include a fun dinner created by Chef Brent. Tickets are $40 ($35 each for two or more).

The City of Monroe Police Department reported the following incidents for the period April 24 – May 1, 2025. Due to the length, this report has been split into five parts. This is the final part. Please note an arrest or charge does not constitute a conviction. Shoplifting – Carmichaels – In reference to a female taking $171.50 worth of merchandise. She also took a purse valued at $278 on 4/26. While investigating this incident Officer was advised of a shoplifting that occurred on 4/24.

ATHENS, GA The University of Georgia celebrated more than 8,000 candidates for graduation in the Class of 2025 during upcoming Commencement ceremonies. The spring undergraduate ceremony took place Friday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Sanford Stadium. The spring graduate ceremony was held in two sessions on Thursday, May 8, with the master’s/specialist ceremony starting at 10 a.m. and the doctoral ceremony starting at 2:30 p.m. in Stegeman Coliseum.

On Stage Playhouse in Monroe is considered somewhat of a crown jewel by many in the Walton County art community. It is a cherished community theater that was established in 1971 and in 1975 found a home in the historic 1920 Monroe Primitive Baptist Church building on High School Lane in Monroe. Today, it continues to be a hub in Monroe and Walton County’s cultural community. To many, if On Stage is a crown jewel in the community, then director Marc Hammes is the brightest diamond in the crown.
