"I once lived with a man who would destroy my home and furniture, and he would cut up all my clothes with a razor blade," she said. "My first boyfriend … would hit me, he would cheat, and he'd leave to gamble all of our money away."Ms Johnson left her last abusive relationship 20 years ago and has since lived on her own.

A steep decline in patient numbers is being blamed for the closure of the only private maternity ward on the New South Wales Central Coast. Gosford Private Hospital, run by HealthCare, will end birth services on March 31, 2025, leaving the public facility in Gosford as the only birthing hospital available in the region. It cited a 40 per cent drop in patient numbers over a 10-year period as the reason behind the shock decision, which comes as Australia's birth rate hits "rock bottom".

Leeton McGuinness has been in and out of prison for most of his life. But things began to change when Mr McGuinness decided to enter a rehabilitation facility earlier this year. "It was a continuous cycle that I thought I'd never leave," he said. Mr McGuinness was accepted into The Glen, an Indigenous-led drug and alcohol rehab centre based on the New South Wales Central Coast. It is a 12-week program, which aims to connect clients with their First Nations identity during their recovery journey.

When teenager Luciana Isaia was asked for suggestions to improve her town's "most unsafe" street, she had plenty. Almost 20 per cent of respondents to a local survey in Griffith, in southern New South Wales, had said they "didn't feel safe at all" on Coolah Street. "Personally, I used to think it was a bit scary," Luciana, 15, said. "I would see plenty of trash, and people were loud or drinking.
