Unfortunately, high heat looks to be the forecast yet again. For today, expect widespread near record heat, with daytime highs at or around 100°+, warranting heat advisories around the region. Spotty showers in the northwest should dissipate quickly this morning. We’ll see this pattern hold until at least the weekend, where hopefully we start to see the high-pressure system currently in place start to shift east and allowing for cooler temperatures and higher rain chances.

Things are looking to stay hot in the forecast! Temperatures should be in the 90-100° range for much of the region, however, a stationary front will keep the northwest just a touch cooler. Leftover boundaries from Wednesday rain showers will aid in developing isolated thunderstorms in the southern and eastern parts of the panhandle. It’s been a much cooler day outside today thankfully, and now rain chances are getting higher for tonight! As of writing, showers in our northern counties are moving off to the east, out of the region. We’re shifting focus to the northwest, as more storms are brewing off the mountains of New Mexico, tracking southeast towards us tonight.

Record setting, dangerous levels of heat are expected around much of the region today. Daytime highs should be peaking at or around 105° today, with places like Palo Duro Canyon getting upwards of 110°+.

While yesterday rain chances were already pretty sparse, they’re pretty much non-existent today. For your Wednesday, expect sunny skies and highs climbing into the mid-to-high 90°s. Winds are still expected to be light today, which could lead to things feeling a little more sticky than what we’re used to. The high pressure that’s been sending rain our way is now set to bring warmer and drier weather. Thankfully however, it won’t be that hot outside, with highs climbing generally into the low 90°s today. Places that have seen more rain lately can expect even high 80°s! Winds will still stay light, and humidity is still relatively high, so keep that in mind when planning outdoor activities.

Overnight showers and thunderstorms have fizzled to just scattered light showers early this morning, and activity will continue to dwindle by the mid-morning hours. For your Wednesday, expected partly to mostly cloudy skies, with much cooler temperatures thanks to a cold front. 80°s to low 90°s at their hottest will be seen in the south. Scattered showers are persisting this morning in our northern zones thanks to a leftover boundary in play. These showers should fizzle out by mid-morning, leaving us with one more hot day, although, temperatures will be slightly cooler in our northern counties. Rain chances return this evening into tonight in the form of scattered thunderstorms that could last through the overnight period into Wednesday morning.

Our warming trend looks to continue as we wrap up our work week and head into the weekend. We’ll see highs around the region up in the 100° range for most of the region, with high 90°s at the absolute coolest! Skies will be very sunny, and winds will be out of the south/southwest at 10-20 mph for the day. This type of set up continues through the weekend and even on into next week.

Thursday’s forecast looks a lot like Wednesday’s, just a little less rainy, and a little warmer. We’ll likely see several places climb into the 100° range today with plentiful sunshine and southerly winds at 5 to 15 mph. This afternoon, expect low-end chances for a few isolated storms, mainly off to the east, with very limited coverage expected. From here on out, things quiet down in terms of rain chances, and we see temperatures only get warmer.
