A flock of Hebridean sheep is helping to safeguard Patmore Heath Nature Reserve, near Little Hadham. The Scottish seven are now grazing alongside eight Herdwick sheep at the site managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. The grass heathland site is a habitat rarely found in the region and has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its ecological importance.

Hertford and Stortford MP Josh Dean has pressed the Government to continue support for Ukraine after brutal Easter attacks by the Russian army. He was joined by Harlow MP Chris Vince when he questioned the Secretary of State for Defence in the House of Commons on Tuesday, April 22. John Healey made a statement about the ongoing war. A significant drop in the price of unwanted clothing or “rag” has prompted a plea to supporters from Isabel Hospice. The East Herts charity needs to generate £7 million a year to cover costs. Only 25% of the funding comes from the NHS, so the good cause relies on donations to its 17 shops to keep providing palliative care to 2,441 patients this year.

Former mayor Ralph Gilbert, a stalwart servant of Bishop’s Stortford, has passed away. The devoted husband and father of two died on Saturday, April 12, aged 96. During seven decades in the town, the former town and East Herts district councillor embraced dozens of roles from founder chairman of the Hockerill Residents Association to president of Bishop’s Stortford Natural History Society.

Boxing fans travelling by train to Chris Eubank Junior’s bout with Conor Benn at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium this weekend face disruptions. Greater Anglia has announced changes to rail services on Saturday, April 26, so Network Rail can carry out engineering work. Buses will replace trains between Stansted Airport/Hertford East and Broxbourne. Trains will run between Cambridge and Stansted Airport as well as between Broxbourne and London Liverpool Street.
