Stays Recently voted the No. 1 hotel in North America by The World's 50 Best Hotels 2023, One&Only Mandarina is carved into 80 acres of pristine jungle. MEXICO’S PACIFIC COAST is nearly perfect in the winter: warm days, cool nights, no humidity. But having lived in the area for a couple of years, I would actually recommend visiting in the summer. The temperatures and humidity are oppressive, but only in this season can you experience the region’s incredible storms.

I CAME TO Rwanda for the gorillas. Mountain gorillas live in just one area of the world, the Virunga Mountains, a volcano chain spanning the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Rwanda, access to the gorillas is strictly controlled. Destinations Volcanic landscapes and glowing night skies make the country an improbable yet ideal backdrop for a family getaway. BEFORE VISITING ICELAND, all I knew about it was it looked like outer space. This was the full extent of my knowledge of the country, so I said it whenever it came up: “I heard Iceland looks like outer space.” People would nod their heads in agreement and I thought it made me sound clever.
