OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. — At Dirty Paws Agape Haven in southeast Michigan, Tom Pappas is living out his dream. On 19 acres of land in Ottawa Lake, his family's home is also home to more than 20 senior dogs living out their glory days. Pappas networks with dog shelters across the Midwest to adopt their oldest residents and give them a place to spend their final years. He only takes them in if he has enough room at the time.

Then, we have ladder companies who utilize ladders or master streams to bring water or rescue operations on the fire ground.

MARBLEHEAD, Ohio — The future of Marblehead's police department relies on a levy on the May 6 ballot. "This is a 5-year, 1.5-mill levy, and the equivalent of a $100,000 home would pay $52.50 or somewhere around there annually," said Marblehead Village city council member Matthew Kovach. In November, a more expensive, 2-mill levy failed. If passed this time around, it would fund salaries to hire and keep officers in an already-small department.
