PITTSBURG, Kan. (KOAM) -- Construction has started on a new outdoor track and field facility at Pittsburg State University. PSU anticipates it to be finished by March of 2026. Up to this point, the Pitt State Outdoor Track & Field teams have used the facilities inside Carnie Smith Stadium. The PSU Athletics Department says the track surface is worn and has been patched numerous times. Rock wall also keeps it from being expanded to nine lanes on the track, which is what national competitions use.

PITTSBURG, Kan. (KOAM) - Newly named PSU President Thomas Newsom delivered remarks Monday afternoon delivering hopes for the future of the University. Newson introduced himself and his wife to the campus and the community in a formal address at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, followed by time with local media and an informal meet and greet in the lobby. "I plan to build on the momentum you’ve built here in the past few years,” he said.

On June 23, 2025 at approximately 07:04, Crawford County 9-1-1 Dispatchers received a call about a two vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of S. US-69 Highway and E. 590th Avenue (E. US-160 Highway). Emergency personnel from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, Frontenac Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Crawford County EMS, Arma Fire Department, and Frontenac Fire Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the driver of one vehicle was pronounced deceased.

PITTSBURG, Kan. (KOAM) - The Kansas Board of Regents approves a new president for Pittsburg State University. The KBOR held a special meeting on Friday to discuss the search for the next president of PSU. They went into an executive session and after returning to open session - say they have chosen Dr. Thomas W. Newsom as the new president. Dr. Newsom is currently the President of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma.
