JASPER, Mo. — The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says deputies shot a man over the weekend following a call for a domestic disturbance. Gavon Newton, 43, of Joplin is in custody on counts of 4th degree domestic assault, assault on law enforcement, and armed criminal action for allegedly charging law enforcement with a knife early Sunday morning. Deputies responded to a call about a “domestic in progress” at 19724 County Road 70 in Jasper.

JOPLIN, Mo. — A Joplin woman is arrested on child sex crime charges after officers found her in a vehicle with a juvenile male late at night last month. Shannon McLaughlin, 42, was arrested for 2nd degree statutory rape on a $300,000 surety bond or $50,000 cash. As part of her bond provisions, McLaughlin is not to have contact with the alleged victim in any manner or contact with anyone under the age of 18.
