    A young boy has died after getting into difficulty in the water at a beach Co Sligo yesterday afternoon. Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the incident at Lissadell Beach when the alarm was raised. Volunteers from Sligo RNLI also responded to a call out. The boy who is understood to be seven years old, was given medical assistance on shore before being airlifted to Sligo University Hospital. He later passed away.

    The community of Clarinbridge in Galway is gearing up for its annual tea party as part of a fundraising effort for the east African country of Malawi. As well as raising money, Mary Booth and her 'Dream Team' are preparing to fill a container with schoolbags, medical supplies, educational resources and boxes of reading glasses. For over a decade Mary has been holding tea parties for various charities, raising over €70,000. Her focus has been on Malawi for the past four years.

    The first purpose-built defibrillator unit for a motorway has been installed at a service station on the M4 in Enfield, Co Meath. The solar-powered cabinets hold specific emergency items for the National Road Network such as fire extinguishers, trauma kits and windscreen breakers, defibrillators and cardiac medication.
