The Islanders and many other teams interested in the 26-year-old, regardless of how this season has gone, must hope Pettersson's struggles have lessened his trade value. Nelson and his agent Ben Hankinson's decision in contract negotiations has a tremendous effect on how the Islanders progress as an organization. That's not to say Nelson staying or being traded automatically forces the Islanders' hand, but given that we are in a salary cap world, other contracts must be considered.
