Music, songs, flags and early American historical clothing enhanced the Help Patriotism Prevail: Saving Dr. Warren Essay Contest Awards Ceremony on April 17. Avalon Health Care and the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins hosted a handful of Southern Utah middle school student finalists in this nationwide contest. The students were asked to read "Saving Dr. Warren ... A True Patriot," a book by Southern Utah author and attorney Jeffery McKenna, then write a patriotism essay.

A surprise layoff from a 39-year career opened the door for a St. George man and his wife to embark on a new business venture to help senior citizens in Southern Utah.
